SALVATION WITHOUT WATER
This tract teaches that baptism, though essential in a Christian’s life, is NOT ESSENTIAL for salvation. There is much confusion on this doctrine. In fact, because of the following three Bible passages and others like them, I believe that many of those counting on baptism, church membership and many wonderful works to get them into heaven will end up in an eternal Hell.
Matthew chapter 7
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name and in thy name have cast out devils and in thy name done many WONDERFUL WORKS
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Ephesians chapter two
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that NOT of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 NOT of works, lest any man should boast.
Should convince everyone that we are not saved by water but by trusting and receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, THE WORD OF FAITH, WHICH WE PREACH;
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BAPTISM
JESUS COMMANDED IT
In Matthew 28:19-20, Just before Jesus ascended into heaven, He personally gave to His Church a divine –three-part- commission.
Matthew chapter 28
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and TEACH all nations, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20 TEACHING them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
1] “GO YE therefore, AND TEACH all nations” Mat 28:19a
This is a command to get people saved, by teaching the gospel: the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Paul is emphasizing it in Romans 10 [printed above]. This is the essential first step. The lost have need of nothing else. They need Jesus as saviour and Lord, not baptism.
First Corinthians chapter two
Explains one reason among many why baptism should never come before salvation.
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; COMPARING SPIRITUAL THINGS WITH SPIRITUAL.
1Co 2:14 But the NATURAL man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
You are a NATURAL MAN if you have not been born again, and baptism will not get you there.
JOHN CHAPTER THREE
Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be BORN AGAIN, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
If you are not born again then you are DEAD – DEAD – DEAD and baptism will never EVER make you alive. Just as a dead dog thrown into a lake will still be a lifeless dead dog you also will stay dead if you get baptized before you get born again.
Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were DEAD IN TRESPASSES AND SINS;
2] Next, Jesus says: BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY GHOST: Matthew 28:19b
This is easy to understand. AFTER a person is saved he is to be baptized in the name of the trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
Only those who deny the trinity would deny that Matthew 28:19 is a direct command from Jesus Himself to baptize in the name of the trinity.
3] Then last Jesus tells us: TEACHING them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you Matthew 28:20
The person who gets saved then baptized needs to be feed the word of God so he may grow thereby,
1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
but that is not the full meaning of what Jesus is saying here.
This is the second command to teach. The first teach is to get them saved the second is to teach them to get others saved then baptized.
To be obedient we must try to get people born again and then baptized in the name of the trinity. Then, through church membership and personal contact, teach them how to get others saved, baptized and into the local church.
SALVATION WITHOUT WATER
1] We are saved by God’s grace, through faith NOT WATER.
Galatians chapter three
Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God BY FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS.
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Please, don’t change the Scriptures to say something they don’t say by saying baptize when the Bible says water or water when the Bible says baptize. OFTEN, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, ONE BAPTISM,
Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
The word baptism is used MANY ways in the scriptures. I wont take the space here but you can look the word up in a concordance and run the references. However there is only one spiritual baptism. Spiritual things are what Ephesians 4: 4-6 is clearly speaking about.
1] THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
A] This is a work of God.
And for our Pentecostal friends we are not referencing what the Pentecostal movement calls tongues. We are strictly referring to receiving the Holy Ghost upon receiving Christ Jesus as saviour. That is the ONE baptism.
2] WATER BAPTISM
B] This is a work of man
WATER BAPTISM IS NOT THE ONE BAPTISM IN EPHESIANS 4:5
Water baptism is a ritual. It pictures the baptism that has already taken place when we trusted Christ for salvation.
Romans 6:3-5 teaches the relationship between spiritual baptism and water baptism. Reading this passage, we see what happens when we first trusted in Christ for salvation and how water baptism pictures it.
Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were BAPTIZED INTO HIS DEATH?
Rom 6:4 Therefore we are BURIED with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was RAISED UP from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5 For if we have been PLANTED together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Get the picture? BURIED, PLANTED. We go UNDER the water to witness that we have been saved and are now following the next, or first, step in Christian obedience: NO BABIES AND NO SPRINKLING.
THE ONE BAPTISM HAPPENS WHEN THE HOLY GHOST PUTS US INTO THE BODY OF CHRIST. IT’S SPIRITUAL, FROM GOD, NOT FROM US.
1Co 12:13 FOR BY ONE SPIRIT ARE WE ALL BAPTIZED INTO ONE BODY, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
FAITH AND BLOOD
Romans was penned about 30 years after Pentecost. It is the greatest book on doctrine in the Scriptures. Romans is written to the gentiles and it is the foundation for every gentile doctrine from Pentecost to Revelation 4:1.
The epistle to the Romans doesn’t teach that water saves, it teaches that BLOOD saves.
Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through FAITH IN HIS BLOOD, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Rom 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Rom 5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now JUSTIFIED BY HIS BLOOD, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
THE WHOLE BIBLE TEACHES A BLOODY FAITH
Act 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which HE HATH PURCHASED WITH HIS OWN BLOOD.
Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation THROUGH FAITH IN HIS BLOOD, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now JUSTIFIED BY HIS BLOOD, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption THROUGH HIS BLOOD, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh BY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST.
Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption THROUGH HIS BLOOD, even the forgiveness of sins:
Col 1:20 And, having made PEACE THROUGH THE BLOOD of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Heb 9:14 How much more shall THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and WITHOUT SHEDDING OF BLOOD IS NO REMISSION.
Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, BOLDNESS TO ENTER INTO THE HOLIEST BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS,
Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted THE BLOOD of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Heb 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people WITH HIS OWN BLOOD, suffered without the gate.
Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, THROUGH THE BLOOD of the everlasting covenant,
1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and SPRINKLING OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied
1Pe 1:19 But with THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jo 5:6 This is he that came by water and BLOOD, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and BLOOD. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins IN HIS OWN BLOOD,
Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast REDEEMED US TO GOD BY THY BLOOD out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
Rev 12:11 And they overcame him BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
WE ARE NOT SAVED BY WATER WE ARE SAVED BY PERSONAL FAITH
Dear reader, the message of salvation is SIMPLE It is the gospel as written in
1Co 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you THE GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1Co 15:2 BY WHICH ALSO YE ARE SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was BURIED, and that he ROSE AGAIN the third day according to the scriptures:
WHY WOULD ANY SAVED PERSON WANT
???A WATERED DOWN GOSPEL????
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Jesus said upon the cross
Joh 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, IT IS FINISHED: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
I WARN you: DON’T ADD WATER to what Jesus has already finished. A man once said to me that I was hung up on 5 quarts of blood. May God forgive him for that blasphemy. I am sure he knew not what he spoke.
HERE IS THE BAPTISM VERSE
Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and WASHED us from our sins in his own BLOOD,
PETER TELLS US THAT WATER DOESN’T SAVE
1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
The water here doesn’t mean baptism because this water pictures GOD’S JUDGMENT on sin. The ark is god’s grace to bring the sinner through the waters of judgment. The ark, of course, pictures Christ. Baptismal waters saves just like the judgmental waters of Noah in the above verse saves. It doesn’t. All outside the ark perished, and so will you if you are baptized without being born again.
WHO CAN BE BAPTIZED?
Only those who are born again can be Bible baptized. That would leave out babies. We can see this truth in Acts chapter ten
Do you know who was the first recorded gentile saved in the Bible? It was Cornelius and he didn’t get saved until Acts chapter 10, about eight years after Pentecost. That’s right there is no gentile saved, in the Scriptures, until Acts chapter ten! Before that every saved Jew believed that a gentile needed to first convert to Judaism. Why? Because until Acts chapter ten, God was still working with the Jews.
CORNELIUS IS AN EXAMPLE OF SALVATION WITHOUT WATER
Act 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHALL RECEIVE REMISSION OF SINS.
Act 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, THE HOLY GHOST FELL ON ALL THEM WHICH HEARD THE WORD.
Act 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Act 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, WHICH HAVE RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST as well as we?
Act 10:48 And he commanded them to be BAPTIZED in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
1] THE SALVATION MESSAGE IN ACTS 10:43
Act 10:43 “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins”.
2] Cornelius was saved and received the Holy Ghost BEFORE he was baptized.
3] Only AFTER Cornelius was saved having his sins washed away in the blood of Jesus was he baptized
Read verse 47, again. It tells us that Cornelius was baptized because he was already saved and therefore he needed to be baptized in order to be obedient to the divine commission. He didn’t need to be baptized for salvation seeing he was already saved, born again without water.
CORNELIUS IS BORN AGAIN, by faith not by water or a combination thereof.
1Pe 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19 But WITH THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1Pe 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
1Pe 1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
A FEW WHO WERE SAVED BEFORE BEING BAPTIZED
THE ETHIOPIAN EUNICE
Act 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
Act 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
Act 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Act 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Act 16:14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
Act 16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
THE PHILIPPIAN JAILER
Act 16:30 And brought them out, and said, SIRS, WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?
Act 16:31 And THEY SAID, BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND THOU SHALT BE SAVED, and thy house.
Act 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
Act 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
CRISPUS AND THE CORINTHIANS
Act 18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
Paul knew that water wasn’t needed for salvation.
1Co 1:14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
1Co 1:15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
1Co 1:16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
HOWEVER IF YOU ARE SAVED THEN YOU DO NEED TO BE BAPTIZED.
It is the first step, after salvation, in the Christian faith.
You are not right with God until you are baptized.
By immersion and Church membership should follow.
This mater of Baptism is so important as the first step in a Christian’s life that many feel it is essential for salvation. It is kind of like the Jews thinking that gentiles needed to convert to Judaism before they could be saved. They thought that because of tradition not conviction from God’s word. I hope this tract has convinced you that baptism, though essential in the maturity of the Christian, is not essential for salvation.
