ABRAHAM’S OLD TESTAMENT NEW TESTAMENT SALVATION

ABRAHAM IS GOD’S OLD TESTAMENT EXAMPLE OF NEW TESTAMENT SALVATION

Friend, confusion rages over the question asked by the wise Philippian jailer, Sirs what must I do to be saved  Acts 16:30

Ask that question to a Catholic, Jehovah Witness, Mormon, 7th day Adventist, Church of Christ et al., and you will get many different answers.
ASK GOD AND YOU WILL GET ONE ANSWER.

The next verse gives the answer to the Philippian jailers question
Acts 16:31, AND THEY SAID, BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND THOU SHALT BE SAVED, AND THY HOUSE.

You do not work at believing.  Yet many add their “WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Not by WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5

SIDEBAR

If you believe the Bible, then just skip to the end of this post – follow the Bible directions – and get saved because the major part of this post is to prove that
Acts 16:30-31 is true as it is written.  I am not saying it is a bad thing to question a passage of Scripture because many deceivers will gladly twist what God has said in His Word to prove a church or cult doctrine.

END SIDEBAR

NOT BY WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS” such as baptism, church membership, helping others et al., therefore, to eliminate all man made confusion God has given us Abraham as an example of NO WORKS SALVATION, or as a well-liked hymn says, “JUST AS I AM.”

Abraham is the father of the Jews, and he is recognized as the patriarch of at least three religions: Jews, Christianity, and Muslim.  You can read about it in Genesis beginning at chapter 12 and just keep reading until you get to the next book, which is Exodus.  However you should read the following first as I will try to make it simple for everyone to understand.

HOW ABRAHAM WASN’T SAVED

I will begin with a passage of Scripture that the apostle Paul wrote in Romans chapter 4 verses 1 – 5, [Rom4:1-5].  I have underlined what I want you to think about.

Romans 4:1-5

1, What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

2, For IF ABRAHAM WERE JUSTIFIED BY WORKS, HE HATH WHEREOF TO GLORY; BUT NOT BEFORE GOD.

3, For WHAT SAITH THE SCRIPTURE? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4, Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5, But TO HIM THAT WORKETH NOT, BUT BELIEVETH ON HIM THAT JUSTIFIETH THE UNGODLY, HIS FAITH IS COUNTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Those verses tell us that Abraham was not saved by anything he did.  Abraham could boast of his righteousness before men but not before God.  That is because God knows that a person deep down inside, where no one can know, is broken because of his sin nature.  God knows your hidden thoughts and desires and you need to know that.  YOU are a sinner condemned to Hell.

Romans 3:23, FOR ALL HAVE SINNED, AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD;

You my friend YOU are the ALL in that verse.   reread it and replace ALL with your full name.

The only hope YOU have of eternal happiness is found in Romans 4:5

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that JUSTIFIETH THE UNGODLY, his faith is counted for righteousness.

That verse is a copy paste verse from the above passage.  It plainly tells us that if you THINK you are a godly person that in itself disqualifies you, for God justifies the UNGODLY.  Abraham is an example of that.  That is because Jesus died for the UNGODLY.  Abraham was an UNGODLY person until he was saved by trusting in the LORD Jesus.
I know-  Jesus was not spit upon, ridiculed with a wreath of thorns beaten into His precious beautiful head, had his beard ripped from his face, whipped until His entrails were exposed, Had nails slammed into His hands and feet when they nailed Him to the cross, lifted high so all could mock Him, and die while suffering more then any man ever has or will, until around two thousand years after Abaraham – But the LORD Jesus did not died until He had paid the price for Abrahams sins and for yours also.

The Bible tells us about the atonement in
2nd Corinthians 5:21
For he [God the Father] hath made him [Jesus the son of God] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The main point is that if good works did not save Abraham then how can anyone be saved by doing their best to be a nice person?  And the answer is – THEY CAN’T!

NOT BY WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH WE HAVE DONE, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5

Okay, I am sure you get what God meant when He had the apostle Paul write in Romans 4:1-5, that not even Abraham was saved by his  WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

HOW ABRAHAM WAS SAVED

the answer is right there in our passage, Romans 4:1-5,
3, For WHAT SAITH THE SCRIPTURE? Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4, Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5, But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that JUSTIFIETH THE UNGODLY, his faith is counted for righteousness.

JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH ILLUSTRATED IN THE LIFE OF ABRAHAM

We know EXACTLY when Abraham was saved because
Romans 4:3 is a quote from Genesis 15:6.

What that quote means is that Abraham was not saved until ten years after he had obeyed God in leaving Haran.  Perhaps you are thinking but Abraham must have believed God when he left his home town of Haran.  Yes that would seem to be the case but WHAT SAITH THE SCRIPTURE ?  Go ahead and read it again.
Romans chapter 4
3, For WHAT SAITH THE SCRIPTURE? Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4, Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5, But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that JUSTIFIETH THE UNGODLY, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Therefore,  Abraham did not have saving faith when he obeyed God in leaving Haran.

The Scriptures tells us about it in Genesis 12:1-4

Gen 12:1  Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

Gen 12:2  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Gen 12:3  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Gen 12:4  SO ABRAM DEPARTED, AS THE LORD HAD SPOKEN UNTO HIM; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

SIDEBAR

I highlighted Gen12:3 because it is a very important verse for America today.  Seeing that Abraham is the father of the Jews you can know that God promises Abraham, in verse 3, that if a nation stands for Israel they will receive God’s blessing and when they are against Israel that nation is under God’s anger.  America the nation of baby murder and moral filth and humanism doesn’t have much going for it except we have always stood with Israel, not so much today.  For more information Google “As America has done to Israel so has God done to America”

END SIDEBAR

Do you know what that means?  That means you can’t get saved through obedience.
You need to be saved to get into heaven so if you obey the Ten Commandments and you are faithful in good works and even if you attend Church every time the door is open you will still spend eternity in hell.  The reason for that is ye must be born again and that is a faith thing, not a work thing that is why Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:3 that he better be born again or the wrath of God will be upon him

Joh 3:1  There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

Joh 3:2  The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Joh 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Later in that same chapter we read that those who reject or ignore the LORD Jesus they are under God’s wrath

John 3:36  He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but THE WRATH OF GOD ABIDETH ON HIM.

The Bible plainly tells us that OBEDIENCE could not save Abraham and obedience will not save you.  Many times between Genesis chapter twelve and Genesis 15:6 God spoke to Abraham and yet he wasn’t saved until Genesis 15:6.

Are we in agreement that that is what Romans 4:1-5 is teaching us?  If not read it again.  It is simple to understand.  When reading the Bible BELIEVE IT ALL as it is written and take notice of who it is written to, most verses have a who, what, where, why and when.  BIBLE STUDY IS FUN.

You and Abraham have something in common, you both are (or were) depending on your own righteousness and if you do not receive the same righteousness that Abraham received before you die, then after you croak you will go to Hell! That is a
plain simple Bible promise.

Isa 64:6  But we are all as an unclean thing, and ALL OUR RIGHTEOUSNESSES ARE AS FILTHY RAGS; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Some say those filthy rags are what was wrapped around puss oozing sores.  PUSS OOZING SORES ARE A GOOD PICTURE OF OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, AS GOD SEES THEM.

Tit 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

ABRAHAM WASN’T SAVED WHEN he built an altar to worship God, and called upon the name of the Lord (Genesis 13:3-4).  It is not just the words; it is a heart thing [Romans 10:9-10].

A church cannot save you, Abraham built an altar and worshiped God calling Him LORD, yet he wasn’t saved until Genesis 15:6

Mar 7:6  He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

Mar 7:7  Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

AND

Mar 7:13  Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

AND

Mar 7:21  For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

Mar 7:22  Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

Mar 7:23  All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

AND

JESUS SAID IN John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

AND

Rom 5:6  For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

That last verse teaches that when you had no strength to do anything to merit heaven; that when you were ungodly and deserving of Gods wrath, God’s Son the LORD Jesus Christ died on the cross FOR YOU!  Romans chapter 5, the whole chapter is filled with hope for you and everyone else, who has not yet died.  YOU REALLY SHOULD READ IT.

I CANNOT STRESS THIS TOO MUCH; IF YOU ARE COUNTING ON BEING GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE HEAVEN YOU WILL SPEND FOREVER IN HELL.

In GENESES 14: 18-19 we read about Melchizedek who is a very interesting person

Gen 14:18  And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

Gen 14:19  And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

Melchizedek is a picture of the Lord Jesus and some even think he was Jesus.  However, I want to use this passage of Scripture to point out that THE ONLY PRIEST WHO CAN SAVE YOU IS THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

If you are a Catholic or if you are trusting in anything else then the LORD JEHOVAH JESUS, you will be under the wrath of God and when you die, you will be in hell with the rich man in Luke 16: 19-31,
LAUGH, JOKE, TAKE A LITTLE DOPE DOESN’T WORK SO GOOD IN HELL.

Hebrews 10:10b  … we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL.

Heb 10:11  And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY SINS:

Heb 10:12  But this man [the lord Jesus Jehovah] , after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
Heb 10:13  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
Heb 10:14  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

IT IS NOW TIME TO LEARN ABOUT ABRAHAM’S SALVATION

The little book of Galatians tells it so simple that anyone can understand it.  Because of Galations 3:6  we can know with certainty when Abraham was saved, because it is a taken from

Genesis 15:6  And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

And here is Galations 3:6

Gal 3:6  EVEN AS ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS ACCOUNTED TO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

And here is the rest of the paragraph

Gal 3:7  Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
Gal 3:8  And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
Gal 3:9  So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
Gal 3:10  FOR AS MANY AS ARE OF THE WORKS OF THE LAW ARE UNDER THE CURSE: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, CURSED IS EVERY ONE THAT CONTINUETH NOT IN ALL THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW TO DO THEM.
GAL 3:11  BUT THAT NO MAN IS JUSTIFIED BY THE LAW IN THE SIGHT OF GOD, IT IS EVIDENT: FOR, THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.
Gal 3:12  And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
Gal 3:13  CHRIST HATH REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW, BEING MADE A CURSE FOR US: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Gal 3:14  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit THROUGH FAITH.

What led up to Abraham’s salvation? Genesis chapter 14 tells us.
Here is an outline of Genesis 14

1]  Sodom and the surrounding cites were attacked by four ruthless kings

2]  Sodom was defeated – they never had a chance

3]  Sodom was looted and Lot, Abraham’s nephew, was kidnapped

4]  a Sodmite man escaped and told Abraham what happened

5]  Abraham assembled his 318 well trained soldiers

6] Abraham caught up with the enemy
A) he divided his men
B) He attacked at night
C) He slaughtered them

7]  Abraham returned to Sodom and returned what the four Kings had taken

8]  The king of Sodom wanted to reward Abraham, but Abraham refused saying
Gen 14:22  And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
Gen 14:23  That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
Gen 14:24  Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.

Up until now, Abraham was trusting in himself, in his own righteousness, and in his own ability.  Yes, Abraham trusted God, but IT WAS ABRAHAM AND GOD – it was religion not trust.

We now come to one of the greatest chapters in all of the Old Testament, chapter 15, this is the chapter where Abraham gets saved.  The chapter starts out with God saying
Genesis 15:1  After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, FEAR NOT, ABRAM: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Abraham had been afraid.  He wanted to trust God as his shield, because he knew those four kings would be coming back and he would not have a chance.  They would rip him and his whole family to pieces.  ISIS could learn a thing or two about slaughter from them.  When they returned it would be different.  Abraham would not have the element of a surprise attack – they would.  They greatly outnumbered him and he would not stand a chance.  His only hope was in what God said in Genesis 15:1.

Abraham wanted to trust God as his shield and great reward, but he was still childless.  God had promised him children but now he was too old to father a child.  If God couldn’t deliver on that promise how could he trust Him now?
Abraham said,

Gen 15:2  And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

Abraham was terrified.  He knew it was over for him and his family.  God had not kept His promise of blessing Abraham with children so how could God help him now.

God tells him,

Gen 15:5  And he brought him forth abroad, and said, LOOK NOW TOWARD HEAVEN, AND TELL THE STARS, IF THOU BE ABLE TO NUMBER THEM: AND HE SAID UNTO HIM, SO SHALL THY SEED BE.

NOW – AND NOT UNTIL NOW – ABRAHAM IS SAVED.  CHECK OUT ABRAHAMS SALVATION VERSE JUST BELOW

Gen 15:6  And he [Abraham] believed IN THE LORD; and he [The LORD Jehovah] counted it to him for RIGHTEOUSNESS.

WOW, here are some verses from the New Testament about Abraham’s salvation

Rom 4:3  For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Gal 3:6  Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

Abraham, at last, completely trusts GOD.  It is not a fatalistic trust; it is a joyful trust of full assurance.  And BECAUSE ABRAHAM FULLY PUT HIS FAITH IN GOD, GOD SAVED HIM.

HAVE YOU EVER TRUSTED IN GOD THE SAME WAY ABRAHAM DID?

Have you been as Abraham, religious yet not really fully believing in God?

if so then why not place your trust in Him RIGHT NOW by obeying what He has said in Scripture.

JUST AS ABRAHAM WAS SAVED INSTANTLY
SO CAN YOU

HERE ARE THE FOUR THINGS YOU MUST KNOW

1] YOU ARE A SINNER

Rom 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

AND
Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

You need to know that because you have a rotten, sinful, ungodly heart you will never be in heaven. Instead you will live in hell.
God the Holy Spirit must convict you of that.

here are the Bible verses

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
that death is the second death.  If you are born once then you will die twice

Rev 21:8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH.

NOW FOR THE GOOD PART.
Which is, Jesus left heaven to die for YOU on the cross of Calvary.  Do you honestly think that the Lord Jesus would have done that if He didn’t have to?
Do you really want to trust in yourself instead of in the Son of God?

Hebrews 2:3  HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

YOU WONT ESCAPE  – you will burn –
TURN OR BURN

I really can’t think of a more wicked sin then for someone to reject God’s sin offering of His own Son.

If you know you are a sinner

and if you know that in your ungodly condition you will burn in Hell FOREVER

and you know that Jesus did die for you personally

then Romans 10: 8-10
tells you how to receive Gods forgiveness and be washed in the blood of the LORD Jesus.

Some things may be hard to understand but do not worry about that, you will understand more fully after you are saved
(1st Corinthians 2:14). The only thing you need to know right now is; it is JESUS OR HELL.  That Jesus paid in full your sin debt and the ONLY thing left is for you to claim your ticket to heaven by being born again.

Salvation, being born again is a heart thing

Romans 10:8-13

Rom 10:8  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and IN THY HEART: that is, the word of faith, WHICH WE PREACH;
Rom 10:9  That IF THOU SHALT CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, THOU SHALT BE SAVED.
Rom 10:10  For WITH THE HEART MAN BELIEVETH UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom 10:12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

In verse 8 we read that the following verses are what Paul preached to get folks saved.

Then in Romans 10:9-10

Rom 10:9  That IF THOU SHALT CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, THOU SHALT BE SAVED.
Rom 10:10  For WITH THE HEART MAN BELIEVETH UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

we see that salvation is truly a heart thing, not a work thing (Ephesians 2:8-9).

when you really believe in your heart the gospel, that is the death, burial and resurrection of the LORD Jesus Christ, that Jesus paid the price for your sins.  Then you will repent and call upon God to save you and to be your Lord

Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

you call upon God in prayer.

right now call upon God to save you.  Just talk to Him.  It is not so much what you say as what is in your heart.

Thank God for Jesus

Thank God for the cross Tell him you repent

Tell JESUS you want Him to be Lord of your life

Tell Jesus you are weak that you need heavens help to do right

Thank Jesus for saving you

If you have called upon the LORD Jesus to save you then He did.

AND THAT -as they say – CHANGES EVERYTHING

You now must find a good Baptist Church that preaches from the King James 1611 Bible and believes it to be the preserved Word of God.  Then you must be Baptized and along with baptism join the Church.  I say must because baptism and church membership are the next two steps of obedience after salvation.

All good Baptist churches have what is called an alter call at the end of the sermon.  At that time step into the aisle, walk to the front and tell the pastor that you are saved or that you NEED to be saved then follow his directions – HE WILL DO YOU GOOD.

A WARNING,

It is a fact that not all King James Preaching Baptist Churches are good.  You need to pray that God will lead you to a good one.
