PART FOUR Isaiah 13:17- 22
This post will finish Isaiah chapter 13.
Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
The Meads of today are the Kurds. When reading the following quote know that this verse could very well be double prophecy. That is the Meads did conquer Babylon and they may also be involved in a latter day prophecy concerning Babylon.
This reference to the Medes is one of the reasons why many have viewed this verse as referring
to the events of 539 B.C. However, nothing prohibits the Medes from being involved in the
future. The Medes were a people who occupied the mountainous area of northwestern Iran and
northeastern Iraq, presently occupied by the Kurds today. They have been fighting Turkey, Iran,
and Iraq in an attempt to establish their own independent country of Kurdistan. Hundreds of
Kurdish women and children were the victims of Saddam Hussein’s poison gas attacks in 1987
and 1988 and the hatred by the Medes for the Babylonians runs deep.
the thing to note here is when the Medes attacked Babylon in 539 B.C. Babylon surrendered without a fight. Verse 18 never happened. It could have happened. The Medes perhaps wanted it to happen, but it never did happen.
Therefore all this is future.
I cannot give credit for this quote either.
Okay so now you know the truth about me.
I’m a derelict when it comes to doing things decent and in order. I am a work in progress and I will work at getting it right.
Another prophecy said that the Medes would expand beyond Babylonia and affect all nations (Jeremiah 51:28). Jeremiah also provides the reason for the Medo-Persian ascendancy: “to destroy Babylon” and gain “vengeance for [God’s] temple” (Jeremiah 51:11). Daniel (Chapter 2) interpreted a dream which also foretold the fall of Babylon.
THE MEDES ARE THE PRESENT DAY KURDS.
There home is in Kurdistan which is in northern Iraq. The bordering nations are, Syria,Turkey, Armenia, Iran, and Iraq.
Their (Meads) bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they (Meads) shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.
The above “Meads” in brackets I have added so you would know that the “their” and “they” refer to the Meads of the previous verse.
the MEADS who we have just DISCOVERED ARE THE MODERN DAY KURDS.
The following quote uses verses from modern bibles. If you have been reading my posts, you know that I detest that. I believe all quotes should only be from the King James Bible. However, many God blessed people out there do not have my CONVICTIONS. Therefore I use their material as it is.
JOEL C. ROSENBERG is one of those who use other bibles yet I have much respect for him and many others like him. In that way I suppose “I am a walking contradiction” (1971 song by Kris Kristofferson).
I am therefore using what he has written as he wrote it. The thing is whatever doesn’t agree with the King James Bible dump it because it isn’t true.
Joel C. Rosenberg writes
What’s more, Bible prophecy indicates that God will raise up the Medes — that is, the Kurdish people — to be an instrument of judgment against Babylon.
• Isaiah 13:17 — “Behold, I am going to stir up the Medes against them [the Babylonians]….”
• Jeremiah 51:11 — “The Lord has aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His purpose is against Babylon to destroy it; for it is the vengeance of the Lord….”
• Jeremiah 51:28-29 — “Consecrate the nations against her, the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their prefects, and every land of their dominion. So the land quakes and writhes, for the purposes of the Lord against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitants….”
How exactly will these eschatological prophecies come to pass? It’s too early to say for certain.
But after studying these prophecies, traveling four times to the Iraqi Kurdistan region, meeting with senior Kurdish leaders — including Kurdish Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani — and tracking developments there over the past decade or so, I think it is fair to say we may be seeing some of the prophetic battle lines developing:
• The hatred of the Kurds/Medes against the Arabs, and vice versa, is steadily growing.
• The Kurds/Medes and the Arabs are in a continued struggle to control the oil resources that will make either or both of them enormously wealthy and powerful in the End Times.
• The Kurds/Medes are, step by step, forming into their nation, and possibly their own country.
• The Kurds/Medes are developing an increasingly effective military force that is able to overpower the Iraqi Arabs at times.
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
Babylon will be overthrown with fire from heaven. This has not happened yet.
Rev 18:8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.
If you take verse 20 literally then it is still future. I have read that Babylon will be a pit into hell where those who rebel during the thousand year reign of Christ will be immediately thrown into.
We know that Peter mentioned Babylon in 60 A.D. when He penned 1st Peter 5:13
“The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.”
But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
Verse 21 is still talking about Babylon.
satyrs— half man, half goat. That would make them some kind of Devil demon. Those who go into the Tribulation period will see them and perhaps be tortured, hunted down and killed by them.
And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.
And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.
Verse 22 is about Babylon. In the tribulation, there will be dragons again on this earth, just like the verse says there will be.
Many literalists teach that the Bible means what it says. I go a step farther and say that I will take the King James Bible literally even in verses like this.
There is a basic truth to Greek mythology. At one time atrocious reptilian animals once roamed this earth, and they will again in the future.
I will close with a quote of Isaiah 13:6
Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
