TWICE BORN PART TWO

MATTHEW CHAPTER FOUR

This is part two of a two part series.

However, I am POSTING the following first. If you don’t want to read it then just scroll down to the article.
Michigan CHURCHES located in OSCODA, GREENBUSH, CLAWSON AND CAPAC
If you live in the Oscoda – Greenbush area and if you are looking for a solid Bible believing, Bible preaching, King James church I have great news for you, there are TWO that I am familiar with. The pastors in both of these Churches have a tender heart and they both are God used men preaching the King James Bible as it should be preached, in God’s power and dependent on the Holy Ghost for conviction and results.
AND NONE OF THOSE PASTORS – NOR ANYONE ELSE – HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS BLOG. I ALONE WILL HAVE TO ANSWER FOR IT AT THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST

ANCHOR Baptist in Oscoda it is just north of the Oscoda post office, ON US 23. The pastor is Glenn Bake – phone: 989-254-5071
GREENBUSH COMMUNITY BAPTIST in Greenbush. Going north on US 23 turn left at the first street when entering town. If you miss it then just turn left at the next street drive one block and the church will be on the corner. If you turn at the first street, Gruff, then turn right on the next, State street, the church is about a block down on the west side. The address is 2430 S. State street. The pastor is A.C. Caincross PHONE 724-5264 Pastor Caincross has a blog http://blessedabovemeasure.wordpress.com
BETHANY BAPTIST Located in Clawson Michigan at the traffic light On the corner of 14 mile and Custer Phone 248-436-9336 The pastor is Jim Howie. He is as fine a pastor as I have ever had the privilege to sit under. He is a true man of God. If you are in the area I strongly urge you to check it out.
BLESSED HOPE BAPTIST 1635 Berville Road Allenton, Michigan Phone: 586-784-5854 This church is out in the country around Capac. This is a church you can get involved in and help it grow, while at the same time you can mature in the Scriptures. If you attend make sure to say hi to my brother-in-law Jim MacCleary and sister-in-law Dorthy. I have posted some of Jim’s writings on this blog https://donoterr.wordpress.com/things-copied/

MATTHEW CHAPTER FOUR verse one

Mat 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

There are two objects to consider in this verse.
The FIRST one is,
Jesus was led by the Spirit – that would be the Holy Spirit of God – the third person of the God head. Anytime I make a statement like that I always feel obligated to say that There is ONLY ONE GOD but with THREE unique personalities. God is the Father and God is Jesus, and God is the Holy Spirit. Not one at a time but all the time (Matthew 3:16-17 scroll down to part one to read my comments) There is a limerick that goes like this:
One in three
Three in one
And the one in the middle died for me.

Of course God didn’t die – the man Jesus died. Jesus was born the second Adam, and He became the propitiation for our sins.
1Jn 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

propitiation is not a word that you find to often outside the Scriptures. Here is a definition from Webster’s 1828 dictionary:
“In theology, the atonement or atoning sacrifice offered to God to assuage his wrath and render him propitious to sinners. Christ is the propitiation for the sins of men.
Rom 3. 1 John 2.”

The next thing I find in verse one is that
Jesus always knew what the Holy Spirit of God wanted Him to do.
We don’t have that absolute assurance.

Here is a guide to help you with that
FIRST – The natural man can’t understand spiritual things.
He can accept the teaching but on the inside it isn’t life changing for him.
1st Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The “natural man” is someone who has never been “BORN AGAIN“. (John 3:3)
If you have never been born again then by definition you are lost and in jeopardy of going to Hell. Don’t be stupid or arrogant, stop reading and click here
https://donoterr.wordpress.com/how-2-b-born-again/
Do it now.

SECOND –  Romans 12:1-2
Tells the BORN AGAIN believer exactly how they can know the will of God for their lives.
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Every born Again believer should memorize Romans 12:1-2.

THIRD –  Read your KJ Bible. God will never have you do something He has denounced in Scripture. God gave that Bible so we could know His will.
2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

2Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

FOURTH  Pray for guidance
Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

If you are following Romans 12:1-2, reading your King James 1611 Bible and you are prayed-up then FOLLOW YOUR HEART.

Here are a couple verses to help you with following your heart
1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
AND
1Co 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

the second point for verse one is that JESUS was tempted.

Mat 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

This proposes a question: could Jesus have ever sinned?

Let me copy what two Bible Scholars: Henry Morris and Peter Ruckman have said in their Study Bible.

HENRY MORRIS
TEMPTED: Jesus was God incarnate, and “God cannot be tempted with evil” (James 1:13). Both Father and Son knew that He could not sin, yet He must be “tested” (a better connotation of the word then “tempted”) so that the world and the devil would also know.”

PETER RUCKMAN
Verses 1-10 deal with the question of the pecability of Christ; I.E. could Jesus Christ have sinned? Every apostate Fundamentalist would say He could not have sinned, under any condition. If that were so, why would Satan tempt Christ if he did not believe there was a chance that he could have succeeded in getting Jesus to rebel against God? When a conservative or fundamentalist takes the position that Christ was impeccable (unable to sin), he is claiming to be smarter then the most brilliant being in the universe outside of God himself (see Ezikiel 28:3)”
Eze 28:3 Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:

My thinking is that the God – man, Jesus, was the second Adam. The first Adam betrayed God’s trust and chose sin. Jesus, who was, is and eternally always will be God, was born a man to set that right. He would prove that Adam did not have to succumb to the temptation which resulted in the human race being cursed. Therefore it seems to me that in order to be the true second Adam Jesus, like Adam, could have sinned but unlike Adam He didn’t.

2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
AND
Luk 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

the next passage is sort of long but read it slow and think about what God is saying. It tells the why about Jesus and Adam.
Rom 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
Rom 5:15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
Rom 5:16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
Rom 5:17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
Rom 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Rom 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Rom 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
Rom 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

This is what Scofield has to say about Matthew 4:1 – the temptation of Christ.

The temptation of Christ, the “last Adam” (1Co_15:45) is best understood when contrasted with that of the “first man Adam.” Adam was tempted in his place of lord of creation, a lordship with but one reservation, the knowledge of good and evil; (Gen_1:26); (Gen_2:16-17). Through the woman he was tempted to add that also to his dominion. Falling, he lost all. But Christ had taken the place of a lowly Servant, acting only from and in obedience to the Father. (Phi_2:5-8); (Joh_5:19); (Joh_6:57); (Joh_8:28); (Joh_8:54).

My thought is that if Jesus, as the second Adam – not as God – if He could not have sinned then – well – it seems a little like cheating to me.

Those are my honest thoughts. Before coming to any kind of a conclusion the reader should pray and study it out.

NEXT VERSE
Mat 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

Jesus was hungry because He was a person and as a man he got hungry and thirsty and experienced every emotion just like Adam did and just as you do – BUT without sin.

Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Soon after being born again a person should devour the Bible [a good place to start would be 1st and 2nd Thessalonians, and The gospel of John.] Just read the Bible asking God to guide you.

There is a great and free Bible software. It has a lot of commentaries so if -when- you have questions you can quickly read what some others have said about the confusing passage. Just down load it then choose your commentaries but no Bibles as it comes with the KJV. It is called e-sword and here is the link:

• There is something about fasting and praying.
Mat 17:19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
Mat 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Mat 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Whenever I find out that a verse has been removed or radically changed I suspect that the Devil is behind it. Matthew 17:21 is removed or corrupted in many of the new bibles.

You do not have to fast 40 days but one or two days could prove to be rewarding.

Mat 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

Satan says to Jesus “IF
Satan knew who Jesus was, and so do many in America.  Many though have let their heart felt knowing ebb away.  And as a result many never become Born Again.
When things go side ways they get angry because God let them go into the valley of pain and despair. As if God owed them something.
God owes you nothing, but you owe Him everything. If tragedy, hunger, threats or anything else comes your way you tell God thank you and ask Him for some more (thanks Peter for that).
Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Stop whining like a selfish teenager and stand tall knowing what it cost God to save us.

1Pe 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot

What would be wrong in turning stones to bread?
It would have been wrong because Jesus would be acting outside the will of God, just as Adam did. Adam’s sin was eating some kind of fruit, you have probably done the same in the last 24 hours. The sin wasn’t so much the eating but the rejection of God’s word. We have a word for that today; Adam dissed God. That is what sin is doing things your way instead of God’s way.
Every temptation the Devil used to tempt Jesus was identical to the temptations of Adam and his wife Eve.

Henry Morris, in his study Bible says,
The devil had tempted Eve and (indirectly) Adam with a three-fold temptation, in body, soul, and spirit (“good for food”, “pleasant to the eyes” “make one wise” – Genesis 3:6) and they had failed the test. All other men would fail the same test, succumbing to “the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1st John 2:16). Jesus as son of man, was subjected to the same three-fold testing and passed the test. Furthermore, He did it in His humanity, without recourse to His power as the Son of God, and He did it – as we can – through believing and applying the recourses of God’s written Word.

In the Next verse Jesus answers Lucifer:
Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

The first thing Jesus says is “IT IS WRITTEN“.
That is why you must read your Bible every chance you get. You read it so you can think like Jesus thinks and know what is right and know what is wrong. The Bible is also our weapon against evil. Read it every chance you get.

I am astounded at the arrogance of so many people who tell God what He must do and what is right and wrong. Of course they have spent little time if any studying the Scriptures.
And let me say this – STOP just stop making excuses for God. Just tell it like it is. Yes God did drown over a million people in the flood as told in Genesis chapter six. You can then warn them that someday they will be judged by Him. Then run them over to Revelation chapter 20.
Job 35:2 Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?

NEXT
Mat 4:5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
Mat 4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Mat 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

You must compare Scripture with Scripture to get the whole picture. We find some vital information when we read of this part of the life of Jesus in Luke 4:6.
Luk 4:6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

Notice that Satan, the dragon [Revelation 12:9], is the god of this world.

2Co 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Many times it is Lucifer who makes people rich and powerful. When considering the good fortunes of others you never know for sure if it wasn’t the Devil that brought them health and riches. I know a few people who belong to what I describe as Quasi Christian cults. They have been greatly blessed with money and wealth. They seem to have the Midas touch. The point is who is blessing them? They think it is God. I think God blesses His family, not the Devils.

It is time for one of my stories.
In the book of Job Satan goes up before God and he tells God that if God would let him take away Job’s health, family and his riches, Job would turn on Him. God said do it.
It didn’t work. In spite of the Devil throwing everything he could at him, Job came through with flying colors – all A pluses.
With that thought in mind. Sometimes God chooses special people to suffer for the cause of Christ. You just can’t judge by the outward appearance. Just love God and love people and spread the gospel anyway you can. And purpose to be an obedient slave.

Back in the late 19th century I think maybe the Devil reversed his strategy. Perhaps today the Devil says do these American Christians love God for nothing? Let me give them riches and power and pleasure and they will quickly worship me and reject you. That has worked as today a popular religious teaching is, God wants you rich healthy and powerful. God wants you to be obedient to Him and to LOVE HIS SON – Jesus Christ

What I want to point out is STOP USING GOD AS A MAGIC GENIE.
Yes God absolutely answers prayer – every prayer that a born again person utters God hears and answers. But just because you are not delivered or you don’t get a blessing – I tithed and now I’m starving. God has blessed Jerry with so much money. It seems whatever he does turns to gold. Yet I am struggling. Why isn’t my marriage working out God can change all that so it must be Gods fault.

Listen you big baby, go tell the ones who are being tortured for their faith right now, even today. They have suffered the loss of all things for their love of Jesus, go tell them how you can’t catch a break.

My example for God’s blessing can be found in the Old Testament book of Daniel Chapter three verses 15-18, with the emphasis on verses 17 and 18. It is my go to passage for prayer.
Dan 3:15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
Dan 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
Dan 3:17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
Dan 3:18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

Our next verse is also the last one we will consider.

Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

is the Lord your God? If He is then worship Him as such. If not then get saved or go to Hell.

One thought on “TWICE BORN PART TWO

  1. I totally agree that Christ could have chosen to sin, but He chose not to and that is what made Him so great. He was weak, hungry, and tired and any one of us may have sinned and given in for food – But Christ, even though he was physically exhausted and near death, perhaps, chose not to give in to Satan, as difficult as it was in the flesh. He was the God man and He was tempted like us, but He endured the temptation, as difficult as it was. He stayed faithful to His calling and to His Father in Heaven. What a magnificent example He is to all of us who give in to the flesh.
